Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power—
the glory and the victory, the majesty for all that is in the heavens and in the earth. All is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

God’s Commission to Joshua [God's chosen leader after Moses]
Joshua 1:1-9
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:
“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you... From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life—I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 114 is a short but amazing psalm. Any attempt to describe God’s Power has failed in comparison to the words of this psalm. The Spirit of God is behind every work—for the good of all things. God displayed His mighty power with the first few steps they took as they began to cross the Jordan on to dry ground. Their entering into the ‘promised land’ would prove to be very terrifying for many, particularly for those who where still not completely sold on the idea of putting their trust in God as their faithful deliverer.

The deliverance of Israel out of Egypt into God's Hand was nothing short of extraordinary. It is just as remarkable for us today when we see His Hand on our lives, bringing us out of our bondage and into His protection. No other historical event was so revered in Israel as their deliverance from Egypt. That event was the beginning of all He would do for the nation of Israel—for His chosen people. It expresses the Lord’s purpose, power, their election, and their redemption.
Only God’s presence with them could explain the behavior of the waters and the mountains. When He brought them out of Egypt and into Canaan, "the Red Sea and the Jordan River turned back and the mountains skipped like rams and lambs—and they quaked." All creation recognized God as their Creator and His will.

Thoughts for today: We quickly forget all that God has done for us. Believing God, faith and trust are the most important attributes we can possess--knowing that we can do nothing in our own strength, and knowing God as our Deliverer and Redeemer will get us through every situation as we surrender to His help.

Psalm 114
1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob, from a people of strange language-
2 Judah became His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled, the Jordan turned back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like lambs.

5 What ails you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back?
6 O mountains, that you skipped like rams? O little hills, like lambs?m

7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
Amen.
