Psalm 125: The HOLY SPIRIT, the Strength of His People

I have heard it said  "Just follow your own heart,  it will lead you on the right path..."  These people believe to just listen and then act on that voice they hear.   Here is what God's word says,  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked...who can know it? " Jeremiah  17:9.   For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come…  Mark 7:21

Should we trust our own heart?   Rather, we are told to "trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on our own understanding... " What we think we can do and believe for ourselves, takes away from God.  We take away from Him everything He promises to do for those who trust in Him...  all that leads us into an abundant and joyful life.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil."   Proverbs 3:5-7

"Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are from God....
1 John 4:1

"Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight...”  Isaiah 5:20-21

During the Exodus, God lead Moses and all the people out of Egypt by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. God went before them ALWAYS.  If  God didn't move, neither did the people.
What the cloud was to Israel, the Holy Spirit is to us.  In times of  “heat",  He overshadows... in times of  "darkness" He gives us light.  When all seems cold... He will even give us His supernatural warmth.  Jesus promises His heart and His Spirit to all who will believe and take His Word into our hearts.  Walk not in your own flesh, but according to His Spirit.

PSALM 125
1    Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2     As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.

3     For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
4   Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts.

5   As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity.
           Peace be upon all people.

We can only do this by abiding in Christ

The result of our justification through faith in Christ is to be a new creation, no longer under the control of our own desires.
—          We walk according to the guidance of the Spirit.
—          To be “filled with the Spirit” is to be under the control of the Spirit. Our    responsibility is to be yielded to Him.
